SSPA Industry Committees are high-powered teams of top services talent focusing on planning, best practices, and ultimately ensuring the successful long-term financial position of technology maintenance and support. Committee participants must be SSPA Members.
Standards & Best Practices for Talent Management and Development
The SSPA is pleased to host an industry committee that is dedicated to Standards & Best Practices for Talent Management and Development which has the following charter:
- Forum for discussing common interests and challenges and sharing best practices related to talent management and development for technology services
- Steering committee & review board for industry programs and initiatives
- Establish and maintain industry standards around skills and competencies
Starting in June 2007, the committee is focused on exploring talent management best practices in emerging markets, looking specifically at India and China. We have assembled a team of powerful industry leaders from major technology companies, including Avaya, EMC, Symantec and many others. We are also privileged to have a senior support director from Microsoft as our committee chair. Together, the team is working towards documenting best practices in the following major areas of a comprehensive talent management program:

Talent Attraction – how to source the best talent in emerging market countries and how to ensure you have a compelling value proposition to attract high performers to your support organization
Talent Development – how to efficiently provide needed technical and soft skills training to have productive support staff ready to interact with customers and how to ensure you have career paths in place that will keep your resources challenged and growing with you
Talent Engagement and Retention – how to ensure your technical resources are highly engaged and remain committed to your company and your customers, including understanding the major drivers of staff turnover and developing proactive strategies to address them through meaningful reward and recognition programs
This committee conducts monthly virtual meetings with key individuals in attendance from companies large and small. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, contact Trisha Bright for details. We also invite you to share your ideas in our committee blog.
