SSPA 2004 Top Talent Industry Study

When you’re looking to recruit and hire top talent support staff, where do you look? What characteristics do you look for in potential hires? What job responsibilities do you emphasize? What benefits do you offer? What sources yield the highest top talent returns? The answers to these questions and more were researched in SSPA Research’s 2004 Top Talent for Service and Support Industry Study.

The study determined what job characteristics attracted them to their jobs and measured the importance of criteria such as base pay, skills to be learned, career advancement, flexible work schedule, benefits, caliber of co-workers, and more. Not surprisingly, base pay was ranked as an important, though not the most important, attribute that attracted top talent to their jobs. Survey respondents also differed along demographic lines such as age, gender, background, etc.

Where do you go to find top performers for your support organization? What sources do you depend on? Many companies depend on recruitment agencies to find top talent but the SSPA Research found that recruiters were not the best source of top talent, though they were one of the most expensive sources. The best source of top talent across those surveyed was employee referrals.

The SSPA 2004 Top Talent Study is part of the new SSPA membership bundle. Other members and non-members can purchase the study by calling SSPA at 858-674-5491, or www.thesspa.com/toptalent.
